Provisional Licence Requirements: Family Medicine Practice
- A degree from a World Directory of Medical Schools recognized university or school of medicine
- One of the following:
- College of Family Physicians of Canada Certification (CCFP), or Collège des Médecins du Québec (CMQ) certification;
- Successful completion of a postgraduate training program in Family Medicine Practice in Canada and Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part I or acceptable alternative;
- Successful completion of a postgraduate training program in Family Medicine Practice identified as an approved jurisdiction and certification in Family Medicine Practice, satisfactory to the College, identified as part of the approved jurisdiction route;
- Successful completion of a postgraduate training program that is discipline appropriate to Family Medicine outside of Canada that is a minimum of two years in duration or that is a minimum of one year, but less than two years in duration, and is the accepted pathway in the jurisdiction of training for Family Medicine/General Medicine, and a minimum of two years of independent unsupervised clinical practice experience. Plus, the successful completion of a Practice Ready Assessment.

- Good Character – all or some of the following may be required:
- Up to 3 References
- Criminal Record Check
- Certificate(s) of Professional Conduct from each Jurisdiction a Licence has been held in the previous 10 years
- Disciplinary and background questionnaire
- Medical education and credentials documents
- Source verification of medical education and credentials is required if trained outside of Canada (may include medical degree, postgraduate training, certifications, and proof of registration)
- Government issued photo identification
- Evidence of Professional Liability Coverage for Newfoundland and Labrador
