Full Licence Requirements – Direct Entry: Family Medicine Practice

In addition to the criteria below, a direct entry Full Licence may also be granted via CFTA  through a streamlined process. Click here to learn more.

  1. A degree from a World Directory of Medical Schools recognized university or school of medicine
  2. One of the following:
    1. College of Family Physicians of Canada Certification (CCFP), or Collège des Médecins du Québec (CMQ) certification; or
    2. Successfully completed discipline appropriate postgraduate training program in the United States of America and current certification with the American Board of Family Medicine
  3. Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) or acceptable alternative
  4. Currency of Practice
  5. English Language Proficiency
  6. Good Character – all or some of the following may be required:
    • Up to 3 References
    • Criminal Record Check
    • Certificate(s) of Professional Conduct from each Jurisdiction a Licence has been held in the previous 10 years
    • Disciplinary and background questionnaire
  7. Government issued photo identification
  8. Evidence of Professional Liability Coverage for Newfoundland and Labrador
