Physician Assistant Licence Requirements:
- be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program recognized by one of the following:
- Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC);
- Accreditation Review Commission – Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or
- General Medical Council (GMC) in the United Kingdom (UK), or accepted for registration by the GMC;
- hold one of the following:
- certification or be eligible for certification from PACCC;
- certification and membership from National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA); or
- certification (PANE/PARA) from the Royal College of Physicians (UK);
- provide a College approved Supervision Agreement.
- Currency of Practice
- English Language Proficiency
- Good Character – all or some of the following may be required:
- Up to 3 References
- Criminal Record Check
- Certificate(s) of Professional Conduct from each Jurisdiction a Licence has been held in the previous 10 years
- Medical education and certification documents verified by the College, this may include verification directly from the issuing institution
- Government issued photo identification
- Evidence of Professional Liability Coverage for Newfoundland and Labrador
- College approved Supervision Agreement
Physician Assistants who obtain a licence with PACCC eligibility must continue to hold eligibility to challenge the PACCC PA Certification Examination to maintain their Licence. Physician Assistants who no longer hold eligibility to challenge the PACCC PA Certification Examination or do not obtain certification will be reviewed by the College on case-by-case basis.
Physician Assistants who have not obtained certification from PACCC or NCCPA will be subject to a period of Oversight and Assessment.
