Making a Complaint

Through the College’s professional conduct process, individuals can make a complaint about a physician’s conduct or the medical care they have provided.

We encourage you to share your concerns with us. By doing so, you help us to improve the quality of patient care in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Before Making a Complaint, Please Note:
  • We cannot order financial compensation.
  • We cannot provide diagnoses, treatment, order investigations, or refer you to another physician.
  • We must share all relevant information about your complaint with the physician.
  • We only have the power to deal with complaints about physicians – we cannot process complaints about hospitals, clinics, or medical professionals who are not physicians.

What to Expect

Making a complaint starts a formal process.

This diagram helps to explain what to expect in our process – from start to finish.

If you have questions about this process, please contact our Professional Conduct Coordinator:

How to Make a Complaint

To make a complaint about a physician, you must complete a Form.

If you are making a complaint about more than one physician, please complete a separate complaint form for each physician.

Once the College has received your completed complaint form, we will send you a letter summarizing your complaint, based on the information provided by you and confirming your intention to proceed with the complaint.
